Overview
Arenal Adventure ATV Tours La Fortuna: Muddy trails, river crossings, volcano scenery, and two hours of off-road adventure — just minutes from downtown La Fortuna.
Get Off the Road and Into the Mud
Looking for ATV tours in La Fortuna that offer more than a simple scenic drive? Arenal Adventure takes you along private farm trails, through pineapple-growing areas, muddy paths, and shallow river crossings, with views toward Arenal Volcano when the weather allows.
The experience starts only a few minutes from downtown La Fortuna, making it an easy adventure to fit into your day without spending too much time traveling to the starting point.
And there's one thing worth knowing before you go: this isn't a tour where you'll stay clean. Mud, splashes, and changing trail conditions are part of the experience.
From Farm Trails to Rainforest Paths
Before heading out, your guide will explain how to operate the ATV, provide safety instructions, and introduce you to the route.
Once the ride begins, you'll move through a mix of open farm roads, pineapple plantations, forested trails, and uneven off-road terrain.
The experience changes with the weather. After rainfall, expect muddier paths and more puddles. During drier periods, some sections may be dustier.
Along the route, you may also see tropical birds or other wildlife, although sightings are never guaranteed.
Take a Break at the Fortuna River
One of the highlights of this La Fortuna ATV adventure is a stop at the Fortuna River.
It's an opportunity to step off the ATV, enjoy the surroundings, take photographs, and, when river conditions allow, cool off in the water.
This stop adds a refreshing change of pace before continuing the off-road experience.
Volcano Views Are a Bonus
Parts of the route offer views toward Arenal Volcano, but the mountain isn't always visible.
Clouds and changing weather can hide the summit, even on otherwise pleasant days.
We recommend choosing this tour primarily for the off-road riding, mud, rivers, and changing landscapes. If the volcano appears during your ride, that's an added bonus.
Single or Double ATV?
You can choose between driving your own ATV or sharing a double ATV with another participant.
Single ATV: A good option if you want to drive throughout the experience.
Double ATV: Ideal for two people who prefer to share one vehicle, including an eligible adult and child.
The operator allows participants aged 16 and older to drive on its private-property route without a driver's license. Children over six years old may participate as passengers, subject to the operator's requirements.
Is This Experience Right for You?
We recommend this Arenal Volcano ATV tour to travelers who enjoy active outdoor experiences, aren't afraid of getting muddy, and want to explore a different side of La Fortuna.
It's particularly worth considering if you're trying ATV riding for the first time, traveling with adventurous friends or family members, or looking for an activity that doesn't take up your entire day.
However, this is still an off-road experience involving bumps, uneven surfaces, mud, and water crossings. It may not be suitable for travelers with certain physical limitations or those seeking a quiet wildlife-focused excursion.
Our Local Take
What we like about Arenal Adventure is the combination of location and variety.
The starting point is close to La Fortuna, but the route quickly takes you into farm landscapes, muddy trails, river crossings, and forested areas.
The Fortuna River stop also makes the experience feel less like continuous driving and more like a short outdoor adventure with different moments to enjoy.
If you're comparing ATV tours in La Fortuna, this is a strong option to consider when convenience, varied terrain, and a little mud are high on your list.
