Overview
Twilight Rainforest Expedition starts when the daytime forest begins to quiet down.
First, the light drops behind the trees.
Then, frogs, insects, sleeping birds, and small night creatures become easier to notice.
This is a slow private walk for people who want to look closely, not rush.
What you'll experience
We start with pickup at your hotel or vacation rental near La Fortuna. Your exact pickup time is confirmed on your voucher, since evening routes depend on location.
Once everyone is ready, we drive to a private rainforest trail about 5 minutes from town. The area is managed by a local family and protects forest beside a clean river.
Before the walk begins, our guide gives you an LED flashlight and explains how to move at night. We keep the pace calm, because most wildlife appears through patience.
Then we enter the trail as the forest changes from daylight to darkness. At first, you may still hear daytime birds settling into the trees. After that, the night sounds begin to take over.
The walk focuses on nocturnal wildlife. Our guide searches leaves, branches, tree trunks, and wet areas for frogs, insects, spiders, lizards, toads, and sleeping birds.
Possible sightings include red-eyed tree frogs, glass frogs, snakes, small mammals, and camouflaged insects. Still, these are wild animals, so no exact species can be guaranteed.
This private format helps a lot at night. We can pause longer for photography, lower the noise, and spend more time with small details that large groups often miss.
The trail is described as an easy rainforest hike, but it is still a natural night trail. Expect darkness, humidity, wet ground, roots, and possible mud after rain.
Your experience includes private transportation, a bilingual certified guide, LED flashlight, and drinks.
The minimum age is +5, and a minimum of 2 people per booking is required.
Our local recommendation
Choose Twilight Rainforest Expedition if frogs, reptiles, insects, and night sounds interest you. This is not a volcano-view tour or a fast adventure activity.
Rain is not always bad here. Light rain can make frogs more active and bring more movement near wet leaves and ponds.
Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip. Bring a rain jacket or poncho, insect repellent, and a phone or camera for photos through the guide’s light.
This tour works best when guests stay quiet and curious. The forest gives more when the group slows down.
Is this for you?
This tour is a good fit for families, photographers, nature lovers, and travelers who want a quieter private experience after sunset.
It is also a good option if your daytime schedule is full. You can do another activity earlier and still keep the evening for wildlife.
It is not the best fit if you dislike darkness, insects, frogs, spiders, or walking on wet trails. The route is easy, but it is still outdoors at night.
Young children can join, but they should be comfortable walking calmly with a flashlight. Guests with limited mobility should confirm trail conditions before booking.
