This 7.5 to 8-hour shared experience connects three different sides of La Fortuna in one scheduled day. Lunch, transportation, entrance fees, and a bilingual guide are already organized.

You will travel with other visitors and follow the group’s pace throughout the experience.

What you’ll experience

We begin collecting participants from hotels around La Fortuna before the scheduled 10:20 a.m. departure. Several pickup stops may be needed, depending on where everyone is staying.

Once the group is together, we travel toward the Arenal Volcano trails. Your guide leads the hike and explains the area’s volcanic history, forest recovery, and surrounding landscape.

The exact visibility changes with the weather. Clouds can cover Arenal Volcano quickly, even when the morning begins clear. The trail also includes uneven natural surfaces, so closed hiking shoes are important.

After the first walk, we stop for an included traditional Costa Rican lunch. This break gives everyone time to eat and recharge before continuing to Místico Park.

At Místico Park, we follow a 3.2-kilometer rainforest circuit through different levels of the forest. The route includes 16 bridges, with six hanging suspension bridges. The tallest rises approximately 45 meters above the forest floor.

Your guide looks for wildlife while leading the group along the established route. Birds, monkeys, reptiles, and other animals live in this forest, but sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Because the guide may be responsible for up to 15 participants, wildlife stops and explanations are shared. You may sometimes need to wait while other guests look through the viewing equipment or take photographs.

The final stop is the thermal section of the Tabacón River. Here, naturally heated water flows through a forested river setting rather than a developed hot-springs resort.

We provide volcanic mud for this part of the experience. Bring your swimsuit and a towel, since towels are not included.

The scheduled return is around 6:00 p.m. Traffic, hotel drop-offs, trail conditions, and the group’s walking speed may affect the exact arrival time.

Treat this as an active sightseeing day rather than a slow wildlife walk. You will complete two walking sections before reaching the thermal river.

Pack your swimsuit where it is easy to reach. A lightweight rain jacket is also useful, since conditions near Místico and the volcano can change during the day.

Leave expensive jewelry and unnecessary electronics at your hotel. The thermal stop takes place in a natural river environment, where rocks may be wet and personal belongings require attention.
