Private Mistico Hanging Bridges Tour: Our Favorite Pick for Forest Canopy Views Without the Crowds
Walking across massive suspension bridges high above the rainforest canopy is an absolute must-do when you visit La Fortuna. But when you join a massive park tour, you end up marching in a long line, waiting your turn behind dozens of other people, and struggling to hear your guide over the crowd.
When our guests want to experience the breathtaking beauty of Mistico Park with total peace and personalized attention, we always recommend our Private Hanging Bridges Tour. With your own private naturalist guide, you set the pace, take your time across the towering bridges, and actually get to absorb the sounds, sights, and scale of the rainforest in tranquility.
What to Know Before You Go
- Who is it for?: Perfect for families, photography enthusiasts, couples, and travelers who want a deeper, unhurried, and comfortable nature walk through one of Costa Rica's most iconic reserves.
- The main highlight: The staggering architecture of the bridges combined with elite wildlife spotting. You'll cross multiple striking suspension bridges (some stretching over 300 feet long) suspended high in the tree canopy, offering jaw-dropping, uninterrupted views of the Arenal Volcano, the lake, and the dense jungle below. Your private guide's spotting scope will help you zoom in on hidden wildlife that standard groups march right past.
- What others won't tell you (And we will): The trail system at Mistico covers about 3.1 kilometers (nearly 2 miles) with some inclines and several high suspension bridges. If you have severe vertigo, some of the high bridges might test your nerves; but because this is a private tour, your guide is right by your side to move at your comfort level—no rushing, no pressure.

How to Fit This Into Your Day (The Ultimate Balanced Day)
Because this is typically a morning or afternoon half-day excursion, it leaves the rest of your schedule wide open. Our guests love pairing this private canopy walk with a relaxing afternoon soaking in the hot springs or unwinding at a local spot.

Questions Guests Usually Ask
Will we definitely see sloths or monkeys?
No. Wildlife moves freely through the forest and specific sightings can never be guaranteed.
Having a naturalist guide and professional viewing equipment improves your chances of noticing animals that are easy to miss, but every walk is different.
How difficult is the trail?
The main circuit is approximately 3.2 km / 2 miles on maintained rainforest trails. It isn't a technical hike, but there are inclines, steps and humid conditions.
Is the experience completely private?
Your guide and transportation are private for your group.
Mistico itself remains open to other visitors, so private service does not mean exclusive access to the park.
Are the bridges scary?
That depends on your comfort level.
The suspension bridges are secure but naturally have some movement while people cross them. If you have a strong fear of heights or moving bridges, talk to us before booking.
Is this a good option for families?
For many families, yes. The private format is especially helpful because your guide can adjust the pace and allow additional stops when needed.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain is common in Arenal and doesn't necessarily stop the experience.
Bring a rain jacket or poncho and footwear with reliable grip. Severe weather or unsafe conditions may require operational changes.
