Overview

La Roca Canyoning is not just waterfall rappelling.
It feels more like a compact adventure course built inside a rainforest canyon.
You rappel, zipline, jump if you want, and walk the river canyon in one route.
It is active, wet, playful, and easier to follow than it looks from the top.

What you'll experience

We start with pickup from your La Fortuna. If you are staying at an Airbnb, share your location link during checkout.

Once we arrive, your certified guides help you get ready with a helmet, harness, ropes, and canyoning equipment. Then we explain the basics before the first descent.

You do not need previous canyoning experience. Our guides walk you through the rope technique and stay close at each platform.

This is a 4-in-1 canyoning tour near Arenal Volcano. The route includes 4 waterfall rappels, 2 zipline crossings, 3 optional river jumps, and a rainforest walk along the Arenal River.

The rappels range from 50 to 92 feet (15 to 28 meters). Some drops run beside canyon walls. Others bring you closer to the water, so expect spray, noise, and a full soak.

Between rappels, the rhythm changes. You cross the canyon by zipline, move along wet trails, and reach natural pools where the jumps are set up. The jumps are optional, and walk-arounds are available.

This is where La Roca works well for mixed groups. Brave kids can jump. Nervous adults can skip the jump and keep going. Everyone still completes the route.

After the canyon, there is time to change and clean up at the base. Changing rooms, showers, and drinking water are included. Then we finish with a traditional Costa Rican lunch at La Roca Bistro inside Místico Park.

The tour lasts about 4 hours. The minimum age is 6 years old, and departures usually run at 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Our local recommendation

Choose La Roca if your group wants variety instead of only rappels. This tour gives you a little bit of everything without turning into a full-day expedition.

It is especially good for families with active kids. The course keeps moving, and the optional jumps give nervous guests room to choose.

Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip. Water shoes, trail shoes, or secure adventure sandals work well. Flip-flops are not a good idea here, and shoe rentals are not available.

Is this for you?

This tour is a good fit if you want a beginner-friendly canyoning day with several activity styles. It works well for first-timers, families, couples, and travelers who want adventure without a technical feel.

It is not the best fit if you want a dry rainforest walk. You will get wet, and you will move over uneven canyon terrain.

Swimming is not required, but comfort around water helps. The only water landing is in a shallow section, and guides are positioned to assist.

This tour is not recommended for pregnant guests, heart conditions, or recent arm or leg injuries. Guests should be in good general health and ready for moderate walking.
